October 24, 2011

Hi Mom,

So you're going to hate me, but I need money again..I destroyed my tire and had to buy a whole new one...I don't have enough left on my card...sooo sorry, I feel really bad.

How's everything going? This week was transfers and I am not staying here in Tampa, Im going back to Sarasota to open that area back up. Im going to be with Elder taveras. He is a native speaker from the Dominican Republic. Im pretty excited. I am going to be in the same branch that I was in when I was serving in Bradenton, so it should be exciting!

This week was really awesome. WE had some great lessons with our investigators. WE decided to teach all of them about the Word of Wisdom and both lessons went super awesome - the spirit was super strong and there was no denying that it was there. They both committed to living the Word of Wisdom and they are both are - which is awesome! Then, I think think Friday we headed over to the mission office after studies because I got a new name tag because one of mine was broken, and on the way there we passed a Hispanic family and I had the thought to talk to them but I just kept riding, then Elder Garey forgot his key at home even thought he knew he put it in his pocket...so we headed back home and rode past this family again. And when I rode past, my bike light fell off randomly and so I rode past them again to get it, then we continued on to the house. We both had the strong impression to turn around and go talk to them, so that is what we did, and I just asked them if they spoke Spanish, and then it took off and they knew where our chuch was and they said that they would come to church, and they did! we had 6 of our investigators at church, it was awedome!

Then last night there was a missionary fireside for all the youth in the ward and Elder Garey and I talked about the Book of Mormon.

Elder Garey went first and avoided anything religious about the book and talked about how bould not have been written in the 1800s. It was pretty cool. But then it was my turn and I tried to go spiritual and it happened to be. The spirit was so strong. It was amazing. It strengthened my testimony so strong by the looks of the youth as I spoke. I know that each and everyone of them felt the spirit and then I invited them all to just ask that night if it was true.

It was definitely one of the most spiritual experiences I've ever been in.

So yeah this was a good week

Love you guys,

Elder Vasher
P.S. Sorry again about asking for more money...don't blame me...blame Florida

October 17, 2011

Hello mom!

Did you enjoy the pictures I sent?? hope ya did

Man the weeks are really flying by! its crazy! Its almost Halloween!

Everything is good out in Tampa. Transfers at the end of this week, so we'll find out whats going happen with us on Saturday.

Last Saturday we had breakfast at President Summerhays' house. It was so awesome, then we stretched and studied with him. He is soo flexible haha. And when were studying the Book of Mormon with him it was amazing. The man is so Christ like. It makes me want to be such a better missionary!

The work is going good, all teh investigators we have, all said that they would like to be baptized but not now, next month. We are working with them.

I can sorta speak Spanish a little bit now! haha but only a little bit!

Everything is going better, we are working harder, so that is helping alot.

Tell Matt and Grace hi for me!

Love,
Elder Kvash

October 10, 2011

Hi mom,

My week was good except Erika didn't end up getting baptized because Elder Jenkins was crazy sick and they could never teach her.

I can't believe you haven't seen the team at all...what is happening to you!

How's that going with Bishop Vasher? that sounds weird

I am reading conference right now. It was awesome...I loved Elder Holland's talk!

Everything is good here in Tamps Florida!

Last Saturday we had a huge ward party! It was Hispanic night and everyone showed up with food and dances from all different countries! It was fun.  All the missionaries danced some line dance..then one did some cool breakdancing stuff...it was pretty fun!

How is Joey with the new lady??hahaha

Love you mom

October 3, 2011

Hey mommmm,
Everything is going so awesome here in Florida.

Soooo about the pictures...I think I figured out a way to send them, and I am going to go look and get a gool to do it. So next week there should be pics...I hope

I loved Conference. President Uchtdorf's talk was absolute amazing, I loved it. And Elder Holland's was amazing. I thought of dad when he said "get in the game and stop dribbling the ball off your foot". I think hat was in Priesthood.

I got my bike fixed.

I love it here, the 9th I am going back to Bradenton for the baptism of Erika. Im so excited. She was the best.

Well sorry this letter stinks, I'll probably write another while I wait. haha

Love ya tons mom.

Oh I crashed...and I need some more pants...is that ok if I buy a pair maybe today?

September 26, 2011

Hi fam,

This week in Tampa...this week wasn't too exciting...not gunna lie haha. I crashed on my bike..haha but nothing too bad. It rained a whole bunch, and when I say a whole bunch I mean a whole bunch. Im kinda gettingsick but not really.

I got your package and I loved it, it made me all fat! haha. I was fat actually, in the 1st month of my mission I was up to 230 but now back to 215ish.

I got pulled over by the cops because we mainly work in this ghetto and they checking people for lights on their bikes and I didn't have mine on so they stopped me and I turned em on! then they asked me what we do and they were like "man, you are very brave for coming into this hood" and I was like thanks.

I just blew out a tire on mike...sooo I may need a little money. I like the new area its really and cool and we played bball last week and there are 2 pretty good players, so its fun.

Well that's kind of it for this week, Thanks mom, I love you, I really do!

September 19, 2011

Dear fam,

The new area is pretty awesome! I love it here ! The ward is super awesome and yes, its an actual ward. Thanks for the package you sent, loved all the goodies.

So I guess my zone has the "best ball in the mission" , so we will see about that ;)  The new area is good,k the Spanish is coming great actually. I feel pretty comfortable in the language now. Its also pretty cool because we always President and Sister Summerhays which is awesome! Did I tell you Elder Nelson came last week? Yeah, it was awesome! You could just tell that he is an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ.

So how's everything with dad being the new bishop? kinda crazy? or what? (Andy was called as our ward's new Bishop the day before)

Still getting to know the people in my area but Tampa is a cool city. Oh and we have 6 missionaries in our ward which is crazy and we have an all Spanish districe which is pretty awesome.

How's the team looking? any studs??

Love,

Elder Vasher

September 12, 2011

Hola mami! Como va? todo bien? haha

That was Spanish...if you couldn't tell. Well, it was a very eventful week you could say. haha, Well Monday we went to a soccer game of a family in the ward for a little, then we went to appt that cancelled as we got there; then we met witha sweet investigator from Venezuela and she made us arrepas? I think that is how you spell it, they were deliciousa! haha then we taught her and her son and it went pretty good. The mom is kinda stuck in her ways doesn't think that there is just one gtrue church...which there is...but she says that she will read and pray which hans't happened, which gets kinda frustration and the people promise that they will be at church on Sunday and you really think they they will be there, then they don't and it breaks your heart...but on the other hand, when people when people do the things they should it makes kyour heart sooo full! and then do you remember that woman erika? Well she kept pushing our appointments back than we met with her last night and it went really good. I really love that family, they are amazing! It was sad to say goodbye, but I hope that I can come down for her baptism. She has a little boy is three and has autism and he is like Caden Anderson, he functions very well. Then on Friday, we got done with a lesson and we were hungry so we went to chilis and we kinda stayed longer than we wanted to but, then we drove to our appointment and we kinds just sat in the car for like a couple minutes. Then we were getting ready to get out then I was like, hey we didn't pray, so we prayed. Then all of a sudden we heard tires squeeling and screeching and 8 police cars showed up and surrounded us...well actually the house we were going to visit...and we just kinds chilled there because we didn'tw ant to suspicious or anything and just leave haha, so we were hanging out there. Then they all started searching the house and looking for stuff and they were calling to get permision to go in. They got it and looked for them, One of the undercover cops came up to us and was like "what are you doing here and do you know these people?" Then we explained we were missionaries ahd he just left. Then more cops came, it was crazy and there is a member who lives like two houses down and they thought the cops were surrounding us! It was crazy, then one of the cops was a member in the English ward and he came and talked to us and said we are free to go. He said we shouldn't go back there any more because its like the worst gang/drug house they deal with...sooo yeah, we were safe. But I think it was cool that we waited and didn't go in to visit with them, we would would have had a lot of problems. It turned out good, funny how the Lord protets us, huh.

Well that pretty much it..But I love you lots and and I miss you lots.
SE ME CUIDAN!!

September 5, 2011

Hey, hello!

Hey mom! HOws it going back at home?  How was Matt's birthday on Saturday. Is is sooo wierd?

This week was pretty, I don't know what to write...we kinda set a date with a woman named Erika for this Aturday. WE will have to see if that will work. There is still some stuff we need to teach her. But all is going good. I am going to go print off some pictures today and send them out to you tomorrow or whenever the mail leaves...this email stinks I know

Ooh, and its almost my birthday :) feel free to send me some things :) and I got a rainjacket, it is really nice!

August 29, 2011

Hey Family!

I'm dry for now...but is is pouring outside!!! and thundering like crazy! Just another crazy day in Florida, right? HAHA hope everything is going super gooooood! everyone loves my bike! I may go get a rain jacket but we don't have many miles left so we shall see.  So I don't have a cord that works for my camera, but I think I saw one at WalMart, I'm gonna check it out, and Im going to buy clippers because my hair is suuper long...I really need to trim the mane.

We didnt get anything from Hurricane Irene. She turned and missed us! Good thing! There crazy loud thunder like every two minutes right now and it is pouring down!

haha its crazy that Matt's turning 13! Thats so crazy! How was the T Swift concert? Did you get me anythin? haha jk, Im all good.

But do you think you could send me some more CDs for my birthday? like maybe some piano hymns, the nashville tribute to missionaries and maybe some Jenny Oaks Baker?

Yesterday, guess what I did. Well I HAVE BLOOD AND PLATELETS! It was pretty cool.
This week was pretty cool and we had a ward talent show and all the missionaries did teh macarena and EVERYONE loved it! and Friday we were checking our mail and we met a lady from Venezuela and she said she had some faimly back in VEnezuela who are members and we met her and her sons, his girlfriend, and their cousin and it went super good! Its raining like crazy! They also invited us to a baseball game tonight!!! so I hope that it doesn't get cancelled!

I had a pretty good week, love everyone back at home!

Elder Vasher

August 22, 2011

Hey momma,

Sounds like an intense week in Salas! ahaha. Yes I got my sweet 1 speed bike, totally thought you were kidding, but its cool, maybe a little flashy, but I always lock it up then lock the tires up too haha. But, I like it, we rode for the 1st time Saturday and it was HOT. But, yeah, I like it I feel super cool riding, but my helmet is a little small...haha (If you have ever seen the size of his noggin.....)

Oh I plan on going to buy a rain jacket today! Sorry I haven't done that yet!

Yes, I heard that Jon was in St. George waiting for his visa. Bishop/President Varney told me haha. By the way, hows that going with him pulling double duty! He is the man!

Thanks for telling me about Tanner. That honestly made my whole month probably. When I first met him I wasnt sure if he would ge on a mission and now there he is! Man, that put me in the best mood ever! I soooo excited for him and I'll have someone to speak Spanish with! HAHA o jaja tal vez (whatever that means)

That's crazy about Preston...thats kinda wierd. Hope everything turns out ok!

So everyone's getting in? How is everything lookin? What's Shae's email - I wanna say hey to that cook kid. So you got to meet Lincoln? Who else is there. Is the practice gear cool? You should talk dad into sending me some of the shorts along with p90x. I feel like I'm getting fat doing nothing. jaja

That's so crazy that Matt's already in 7th grade. Time flies! I HAVE ALREADY ALMOST BEEN GONE FOR 3 MONTHS! Can you believe it??? Did you not get the pics I sent last week? and yeah, something happened to my memory card because ihad a TON of sweet MTC picx

Soo for the mission...what happened this week? Monday was cool, got to hoop with some of the elders in my zone. We still haven't had any more contact with Cesa, so that's sad, We went over to Erika's house and she taught us, which was cool, still doesnt have a date for baptism, but we will get one. Then we over to member's house for dinner and he is living some non-members and we got them to come to church and he said that they really enjoyed it, which was pretty awesome!

Saturday, we were on our bikes and we rode 10 miles out to this guys house just for him to tell us he didn't want us to come by anymore, so that was a bit frustrating...but then we looked around and talked to a couple of people and a crazy guy who invited himself to church, but he didn't show. We will probably go and see him sometime. A sister that Elder Jenkins has been working with for 4 months came to church. It was so awesome.

Iam doing great! Doing pretty good with the language and everything!

Love you guys!

Love Elder Vasher
P.S. Feel free to send some snacks

August 8, 2011 part 2

Dear family,

It is quite hot in Florida! I did get my retainer and I went to put it on and it did NOT fit, so I forced it on, but now I have it on.

It is pretty sweet here. My companion is Elder Jenkins, he is a cool guy, from Plain City, Utah. haha, but the food is good here...haha for the most part. People feed you tons and tons here. No bike yet...well there wasn't a bike here when I was at the mission office.

I am in Brandenton right now. My area is HUGE, it covers Bradenton, Palmetto and Sarasota, Florida. Pretty sweet area, and we are on full car so we don't have to ride bikes ever, which is pretty awesome and we both have cell phones - kinda getting spoiled here haha.

President Summerhays is the collest! He plays at Utah in his days and he changed the rule about not playing full court basketball, so that is sweeet!

Now real mission stuff haha ... well the people we teach the most are already memebers and they are inactive, but we do go knock doors about once a day which is pretty cool, meet a lot of drunk people haha.

But I have been told that most Hispanic houses have mop and chairs out front of their house, so thats what we look for when we go knockin. So, one day were knocking in a apartment complex and there were a lot of non Spanish people so we about to go, but then we saw an apt tucked way in the back and it had chairs and a mop out frong. So we went and knocked it, and taught a great guy named Cesa Hernandez, he agreed to read and pray and then when we went back a couple of days later we found that he had read and prayed and said he knew the cnurch was true and we set a date for th 27th of thie month to get baptized. Its funny how the Lord will lead you to those that are prpared! But then later that night I got to baptize one of the hermanas baptisms...so that was super cool! Well today is my pday and I am in the libary!

Later in the morning:

MOOOOOOOM! hahahaha soo its raining and there is an alligator in my appt :)

August 8, 2011

I made it safe and sound all the way here. And pictures...I sent my memory card to Mia so talk to her. haha. It was a last second thing so I threw it into her letter.

I talked to Elder Reist on Friday! (Elder Reist was on Andy's Hartnell basketball team before his mission)

Send more later!

July 28, 2011

Hi Mom,

Thanks for the food and my camera, and yes I got the card. And well Monday I have to be at the travel office at 4 AM so I should in the airport around 5ish? So, Im not sure, but I do fly to Phoenix.

Are you in Colorado? (We were visiting Nathan and family in Denver)

Today the Provo Temple FINALLY re-opened, and we got to go so that was suuper awesome. The Temple is my favorite place to be because its as close as we can get to our Heavenly FAther and receive answers to prayers. The spirit works in funny ways.

That's crazy about Preston! Any idea on what happened to him? That's Scary! I have not seen Tommy yet, but I will look for him before I leave.

Oh, can you put like 50 more in so I can have cash money?

Love ya! Can't wait to talk to you!!!!!

July 21, 2011

Hey mom,

How's it going? I need money :) Sorry I'm a pit hole, but I need to take money out before I fly, can you send me a dear elder or something when you do put money in and tell me how much so that I can know and take some out...our you can send me some with my new package :)

So, this week has been good. I kinda think I am ready to speaka little spanish, but eeeeh don't know how ready I am to get crazy with all the native speakers.

I got my flight plans today so that was pretty awesome! And my comp and I got selected to be special missionaries who "teach" for all the new missionaries.

I have to be up like at 3:00 the day before I leave, crazy huh?! Make sure you let the fb world know :) I fly to Phoeni and then onto Tampa. I sups excited!

Love you mom!

July 14, 2011

Hi Mom,

Hey, I lost my retainer, I have NOOOOO idea what happened to it..I'm really sorry.

How's your week been? Mine's been good. Really trying hard to be meek and humble and I have seen some of the blessings, but it is so hard to always as the Savior was. It takes an etreme effort - no new Elders this week.

But there is an Elder who knows Cory Seymore. He is from Show Low and Addy was in his Sunday School class, which is pretty cool!

Love you mom and miss you.!

July 7, 2011

MOMMY! Its early in the morning but I just wanted to say hi and I will be on later!

Later in the day...

Been an awesome yet crazy week at the MTC. For the 4th of July, we had a special devotional on Saturday night and had President Stoddard talk and I guess he was an advisor to 3 US Presidents. He talked about the sacrifices that have been made for this land and that this is the land of promise. Then they had missionaries bring in flags from all the countries where missionaries are now serving and the Spirit was so strong and it bore witness to me that this is the Divine work.

Then Sunday, we had Jenny Oaks Baker, an amazing violinist. You definitely should check her out and if you feel so inclined, buy me a couple of her CDs and send them my way :)

Oh, in gym, this Elder disloacted his ankle. It was pretty gross (I think thats the first time there has been an injury on the court and it WASN'T KYLE hehe)

Language is coming along a lot better, I can pretty much teach in Spanish. I will send you a picture of me with the map today.

I hear that I am no longer the CFO of sleep???? (facebook status) What! haha just kidding.

I'm learning to play the piano! Feel free to send me some snacks if you would like.  My goal is to learn a hymn while I am here then I'm going to master it! My fingers feel like they are moving so fast now! I'm going to be as good as Gracie ! ;)

I will send you some pics and a card for Grace - should be there by Monday.

Miss all of you and love you guys tons.

Con Amor,
Elder Vasher

June 30, 2011

Hi Mom,

Pretty crazy and awesome week. Love going to the Temple every week, which I will miss because the Temple is closed for the next four weeks. There is no where else in the world that I like to be. I have been blessed to have some pretty sacred experiences while service in the House of the Lord. I know with all my heart that this is the true church of Jesus Christ on the earth today.

OH man, last Friday we had a special fireside and Elder Bednar spoke. Also in attendance was...dang I totally blanked out. I will write you a letter later today with those details.

Yup, me and Elder Facer are zone leaders. Pretty crazy. We had 29 new missionaries come into our zone yesterday and we had to show them around. That was pretty awesome.

Nate's president name was President Hacking. He called me up during Priestood meeting when he was in our branch and he was talking about the impact am ission can have on our lives, so I proceeded to kind of tell about Nate. Time and time again the Spirit testifies to me that this is the Lord's work and I have been called and set apart to do this work.

Thats awesome about Nick and his job offers. I have been meaning to write them..stilllllll waiting on the Anderson's address :)

So, are you going to be sending me a new camera?

Love you, hope all is well

Elder Vasher

June 23, 2011

Hey mom,
Nope, haven't got the package yet but I am anxiously awaiting it! I do see Jon like everyday during dinner. He is a good kid.  We are both in the MTC choir! ha ha. Too bad about the computer ha ha, its awesome here.

Later that day...

So I will write a real email now hah. So, this week I got called to be zone leader, which is pretty humbling because there are some really awesome missionaries. There a ton too! But I think we are losing some because they are in the advanced program.

The gym is closed this week so I have found out that I am quite the baller when it comes to soccer..ha ha - not. But its fun.

This week the twelve apostles are here to teach new mission presidents, so I have seen a couple around. The security is super tight because the prophet is here.

I am improving as a singer :D. I am a member of the MTC choir and I am rocking the house.

We lost 3 elders and 1 sister from my district this week to the MTC in Peru. I started to get really excited to leave, buuuut I have six weeks left. Time is starting to fly by, the days blend together. They are all the same pretty much except Sundays and Thursdays. Its super cool to get to the Temple once a week here.  Sundays re always awesome, this last one the district president was to call me and my companion to be zone leaders AND he is Nate's mission president. He is a great man. My branch presidency is awesome. The president was a mission president in Brazil and taught Portuguese at BYU for like 30 years. His 1st counselor was a Marine helicopter pilot during Vietnam. He is my favorite, I think. He reminds me a lot of dad and I think that is why I like him so much.

My district is so awesome, and so is my zone. Its really cool being able to know that you are set as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Well...I'm still waiting people's addresses : ) ha ha

Love you guys and miss you lots,

Elder Vasher

Week one - down!

Hey mom,

Have you found my white pants? (note: he thought he left them home, they are no where to be found)

That's crazy about the Palma kids. (note: some high school kids were held up at one of the beaches). I will do my best to tell you everything hmmmmm.

Well, my district is HUGE. We have 13 elders and one solo sister. Being district leader is tough, I can't wait to get out into the field.

Spanish is coming along...haha little by little. My companion is a genius! He studies all day long without any breaks. He is amazing haha

We had Elder Kikuchi come and talk and it was amazing. Felt the spirit super strong. We went to the Temple today, it is amazing there.

I miss the fam and everyone at home lots.

Oh and they have this magic thing, its called dearelder.com ... its a website where you can write a letter and they delivery the same day

I  tried to upload some pics and I think I need a new camera...hahaha its not the most talented camera.

First email home...

June 4, 2011

Hey MOM!

How's it without me (: ? haha. Thanks for the donuts! The missionaries in my district love them! Also I got called to be the district leader for my district. Kinda crazy tho. Because I feel a little inadequate but I know that I was called for a reason and that I can do it. It makes me want to be a better missionary so that I can lift them up to the level I am striving to be at.

My companion is awesome. He is from Tennessee. We both are very focused on being as obedient as we possibly can. Being in the MTC is pretty awesome. The Spirit is super strong here. It is so cool because all the other elders have the same desire that I do to follow the Lord's commandments to serve with all our heart might mind and strength.

Hope all is going great with you guys back at home. Also, hope that you drive safe!

P.S. I have like no ones addresses so I was wondering if you could email me a few of them?

Send my greeting to all the "homies" back in Salas.

Love and miss you guys, but I know that this is where I am supposed to be.

Love,
Elder Vasher

Here I am!

June 1, 2011 - Kyle arrives at the MTC. Ready to get started on his mission...
